The Foundation was formed in 1998, initially to save an 1837 house that was in imminent danger of demolition. The group soon found that there were many spokes on the wheel of "restoration". Perhaps most important of all is the absolute necessity to educate our modern society of the need to preserve and restore the historic buildings that still remain. Many small, rural towns are having a difficult time trying to improve their economies. We have found that our economy can be grown by encouraging tourism. The interest in historic preservation has been growing nationwide. Towns that develop their historic sites and provide tourists with good restaurants, quality gift shops and interesting and entertaining venues will usually see an improvement in their economy. This is our goal in Fredericktown-- We have chosen our historic connection to the Civil War. The Battle of Fredericktown took place on October 21, 1861. Our town is also the beginning of the War Eagle Trail. Please click on our Civil War and War Eagle Trail link and then browse our website. We invite your questions. We are willing to share the knowledge we have gained. We're all in this together!
